My Project: A Pressing Matter: Finding the Right Location for my Ironing Business
First, I would like to tell you a bit more about my business. I have a passion for ironing and have been doing it as a hobby for many years. I have always enjoyed ironing clothes for other people – for my friends, family members, costumes for plays, you name it!
I became known for my ironing talents in my hometown of Callan, and people in the wider community started to ask if I could iron clothes for them too. I decided to start up a small ironing business in 2023, starting in November of that year. Since then, my small business has been in a startup phase, it is open once a week on Mondays.
I would like my business to grow. One of the things I need to make this happen is a good space to work in. A local enterprise has very generously been offering me a space to work in for the past months and to help me start my business, but this is not a long-term solution.
My plan is to work with the town-community here in Callan, with other businesses, organisations and possibly local politicians to see if they can help me find a better and more long-term business location. I also hope to advertise for my business so that my customer base grows.
My business will make my community better because it will raise awareness of the entrepreneur possibilities for people with Down Syndrome. I want to show young people with Down Syndrome that they too can follow their dreams.
I have decided to donate a percentage of my profits to IMNDA (Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association) and I like to be a good example of how it is important to support and advocate for others.
I could use your help to:
Get information on organisations that help small startup business like my own
Make a plan for the launch party at my new location
Explore how I might further develop my business next year
