My Project: My Budget, My Choices
After I finished secondary school, I went to a day service called the National Learning Network.
I enjoyed making new friends, but I did not get a chance to do many of the things that would help me to be more independent.
A few years ago, I got the chance to join a new programme called Personalised Budgets.
With help from Mum and Dad, I can now do lots of activities and get treatments that I need.
For example, I can:
Get help from my Personal Assistant with traveling, cycling, swimming & social outings;
Take the bus from Letterkenny to Derry to attend my drama group called Stage Beyond;
Get therapies that help me feel better, like Listening Therapy, Equine Therapy on a pony called Midnight, Acupuncture and Reflexology;
Do online music classes.
I would like to make a short video to show all the things I can do with my budget and how it has worked so well for me. This would help to explain the programme to other people who would like to learn more about it. It would also help the people in government to understand how it would help others.
Things I need help with:
Technical help to make the video
Creative assistance to write the script
Expertise in social media to put the video online
